Spinning Diversion

March 14, 2012

Spinning has been diverting me from quilting… I’ve resisted learning to spin, from my mum, for years. How? Well, I’m allergic to wool and wool was what she spun.

That all changed when we acquired three alpacas.

I settled on spinning the 2nds and 3rds from an older alpaca (I wouldn’t want to waste the good stuff!). So, what to do with the first spun? There are curly twists aplenty and no┬áconsistency. I didn’t expect perfection but I would like to make something from my efforts. So… I thought a rug might be suitable till I found “Lucy’s Bed“.

Now I’m on my way to finishing my first project. Woohoo! 20 rows to go before it’s felted.

Starry Night

Progress continues on my $10 quilt at Country Concessions… I really should post a little more often but I’m afraid my negative attitude may be off-putting.

I’ve been watching as many of my friends move on with more “artsy” quilts… AND since I’m experiencing mega-boredom with the half-square triangles in this quilt I’m thinking that’s the way to go. Any way to get away from the half-square-triangle hell I’ve found myself in. Half-square triangles, month after month, are tedious! If the fabric wasn’t so energetic I would have abandoned the project months ago. Sigh…

$10 Quilt

September 15, 2011

It’s been a while since I’ve done any quilting, so I started the $10 Quilt with Country Concessions, in Cookstown. I got my September block done! Woohoo!

Next Project – Update

April 1, 2010

I’m not sure why I was procrastinating with this project… but the cutting is done now.

Next quilt fabric choice.

Decisions, decisions!

Fabrics have been selected and cut to 9″… why not the 10″ we discussed? Well, I used several fat quarters and one of them (ahem! the focus fabric) I couldn’t squeeze out the extra inch. I’m okay with that… However, I’m wondering about the green. Does it belong? My instinct is No! … Ah well, I’ll soon find out.

Focus Fabric

March 6, 2010

Okay, this will probably be my focus fabric for the next project… the question will be, “Do I have enough?” I have many pinks and reds, a few greens, and not so many beiges.

Finished!

December 29, 2009

It was finished a few days ago … It was a gift so I didn’t want to post till after Christmas čÖé

Bento Box

Did I mention that I backed it with ‘Fireside’? Really cozy and snuggly but tough to work with using the quilt as you go technique I used…. I quilted the centre box and added the borders which curled devilishly as I worked with it.

I NEED help!

Heres the problem… I’ve rearranged these blocks after this photograph was snapped but I just can’t seem to make it ‘work’ with all the fabrics we swapped.

Did you guys use all our swapped fabrics?

Working on our next project, the Bento Box… Here’s my sneak peek!

Red Blocks

These blocks are my test blocks… The funny thing is that I was testing the darker fabric choice (blue) to see if the large print would work… but discovered that the ‘directional’ was actually more bothersome.

It didn’t hurt… too bad.

January 15, 2009

Okay, I’ll admit that it was NOT as bad as I had feared. After completing the test leaf (Thanks to Sheree!) and one other ‘practice’ I knew what to expect and it was kinda fun. Now, the only thing I’m worried about is the thread colour. I thought of doing red, like the border… but opted for shiny rayon.

These are my final fabric choices. Even though the Alder leaf doesn’t really have an autumn colour I’ve seen yellow floating in a stream. Hopefully artistic license is allowed. So, here goes!

Also, I thought I’d share my test leaf since I’m not sure about this “thread art” thingy…

Don’t mind the puckering. The tension is fine for steam-a-seam leaf area. Might try a test stem with steam-a-seam.
