New Quilter :-)

September 3, 2010

Heather sent me the picture she had taken of her wall hanging –

Now she is working on a wall hanging from a kit I bought a few years ago at the Waterloo Quilt Show. I think she’s going to try free motion quilting on that one.

Miniature Project – 2011

June 3, 2010

Auditioning background, border & binding

We are well ahead of schedule on our Miniature Project for the 2011 Quilt Show.

Fabric choices

March 7, 2010

Here is the focus fabric & coordinates/accent fabrics I have chosen for our next project:

Bento Box Weekend

November 15, 2009

There were more seams to match than I first imagined once the set of four blocks started going together, but I made it through without too much trouble.

I spent more time rearranging blocks before sewing together than making the individual blocks, I think.

Valentine Bargello Workshop

July 4, 2009

Here are the quilts we made at the workshop we took at Cock-a-doodle Quilts

After spending the last four days in pain with a wrenched back, I have finally started working on getting the borders on this quilt.  I wish the workshop had been just a little longer so we could have had time to get the border batting attached.  I don’t think I stitched the first small border on correctly and I had to unstitch the ends to get the batting in properly.  Anyone else have their borders finished yet?

Minature Project

March 2, 2009

The mini quilts are finished, now they just need to be put together.

Completed on March 15th.

Miniature Quilt Project

Here are the fabrics from the kit I bought for the little leaf quilts –

Little Quilt kit fabrics

I like the background fabric, it looks like tree trunks.  Hey, Kate – I like your fabrics but you labelled the turquoise fabric as ‘leaf’.  Did you mean ‘border’?  With a yellow leaf?  If we get all the photo for our fabrics up, we can create a virtual design wall for this little project!

First Serger Project

August 13, 2008

I managed to produce two valances with my new serger without any major problems – yeah for me! Now my bathrooms are complete…

AND… I still have fabric left over for other projects… sweet!

Border choices…

June 18, 2008

I have been trying to decide on borders for the “Playing with Triangles” quilt top from Cathy’s workshop. I have narrowed it down to two choices. The first I could finish immediately as both fabrics are in my stash. The second choice I would have to go shopping to find the outer border fabric. First is dark, second is light. Which do you prefer?

1st border choice

2nd border choice

I could order the second fabric online or find something similar with cream background and open’ish’ floral print.  Hmmm…

Cool toy, but $$$ !

AccuCut Fabric Cutting System
Have a look at the AccuCut Fabric Cutting System. Click on the link to “WATCH THE VIDEO…” at the top of the page to see how the machine works. One of the dies is for cutting squares with pre-cut fringe for rag quilts. There’s a time saver for your Ragtime quilt! I think it would be fun to play with all the different dies, if I had a spare grand or two laying around. On the latest episode of the Quilt Show, Alex and Ricky visit a group of ladies making charity quilts using strips and the quilt-as-you-go stitch and flip method and then they applique a few fun shapes cut with the AccuCut onto the finished quilt. It looked like a lot of fun! The guild may not be able to afford an AccuCut, but they might be able to use the Strip Quilt idea for Community Projects.
